Our Christchurch yard - Ian Franklin Boat Builders

An internationally renown custom boat builder

 

Located in the suburb of Bromley in the city of Christchurch, Ian Franklin Boat Builders  features a 9,600 sq ft timber and composite workshop, a 2,400 sq ft engineering workshop, a dedicated spray painting shop and a massive hard stand area.


The workshop is fully equipped for sophisticated composite and timber construction and includes the following:

  • An eighty foot, state of the art, temperature controlled heat curing oven
  • Specialist wood working and laminating equipment
  • Mobile spray painting tunnel.
  • Lifting gear, paint and resin store and a secure area for owner supplied equipment.

 

Overlooking the workshop floor are the administration offices , while below these are the foreman's office, a dedicated technical room where the electrical and plumbing equipment can be bench assembled and tested before installation into a boat,  a combined tool and fastening store with everything either shelved or racked for easy selection.

Adjacent to the main workshop is a second building housing a large spray booth - 1200 sq ft (below right) and Franklin Engineering's 2,400 sq ft workshop.

Specialists in marine engineering 


Specialists in the marine engineering field, Franklin Engineering work with stainless steel, aluminium, or titanium to create the custom metal fittings and  for each boat, as well as installing the mechanical and plumbing systems.

They also operate the modern lead furnace that is capable of pouring any keel size.

 The yard also features a large hard stand area, with plenty of space for cradles and loading and unloading boats from transporters.

Our Waikawa yard - Franklin's of Waikawa

The Complete Marine Maintenance Facility

 

Located in at the head of Waikawa Bay in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds, Franklin's of Waikawa  offers a  full marine maintenance service from simple lift and clean downs through to complete refits - including repaints, repowers, interior remodels, new keels, new rudders and rigging services.

Franklin's of Waikawa offers the following facilities:

  • Secure yard that features 38,265 sq ft of hard stand area.
  • Two refit tunnel sheds -  58 ft by 29 ft and 64 ft by 36 ft.
  • A 2,034 sq ft Workshop, featuring full woodworking and metal working facilities.
  • An administration office and a marine maintenance retail shop, fully stocked with supplies of paint, anodes, timber, plywood, resins etc.
  • A 35 BMF Travelift - maximum 17 foot beam.

  • Mast gantry.

  • Purpose built wash down area with variable pressure water blasting and specially constructed catchment sump to safeguard the environment. The only Regional Council approved wash down site in the area.

  • Secure hard stand area with adjustable steel cradles for yachts and power boats.

  • Power and water adjacent to each site.

  • Do-it-yourself owners are welcome and our expert staff will happily offer advice or help with some work.

  • Hard stand space for short or long term hire, with off-season discounts available.
