Q
Simple, fun sailing for two, or crew her up and go racing - Q fitted the client's brief perfectly.
Built for a San Francisco based couple, the dual purpose ‘Q’ was designed by Carl Schumacher to the owner's brief - producing a boat that is easily handled for two-handed cruising and with enough performance to be competitive around the buoys.
A wolf in sheep's clothing is how one writer has described her, with beguiling classical lines, large open day sailor cockpit, tiller steering, soft yellow hull colour and traditional looking bright work, she presents the image of a pretty boat.
But hoist the Kevlar/carbon main and jibs on the fractional rigged, Hi Tech carbon spars, and pop up the lilac Airx 7/8ths spinnaker and she immediately demonstrates the lively performance that has turned heads.

Construction is in E-glass and Superlite Balsa, vacuum bagged in epoxy resin. Q is finished in Awlgrip paint, Fighting Lady Yellow on the hull and Cloud White decks with Greystone non skid. The interior is very simple but adequate for a couple day sailing, with a double berth or storage in the forepeak, a head with feature Q mirror and sink.
The fractional rigged, Hi Tech carbon spar has rod rigging, including a Navtec backstay and a hydraulic mast jack for rig tension. Q features high performance foils in the form of a bulb keel and a deep profile rudder.
There are no life lines, pulpit or pushpit fitted, but stanchion sockets are built into the hull, should they ever be needed.
The owners are active members of San Francisco Yacht Club, have found ‘Q’ to be convenient and comfortable to sail.
