Inner Circle Picnic

With the beautiful Sydney Harbour her home, ‘Inner Circle Picnic’ is in her element...
following the 18 footers, family outings and regular trips to the famous Sydney fish market.

Modern composite and traditional construction come together in this classically styled 32´ launch.

Bruce Askew's design offers refined good looks and style with the benefits of today's construction methods - in particular, the strength to weight ratio and relatively low maintenance.

The design called for a mix of traditional and contemporary materials, combining a Kauri strip planked hull built over laminated Kauri frames, and sheathed with a heavy E glass laminate,  with composite construction for the cockpit sole and cabin tops.

Most of the interior is clear coated, showing off the glowing glory of the Kauri. Great care was taken throughout the building process to protect the wooden interior which is now there for all to see. The care and attention given to the detailing and finishing by Franklin's craftsmen was such that Inner Circle Picnic resembles a piece of fine furniture as much as she does a boat. Just look at the detail in the photos below.

Although principally a day boat, there is overnight accommodation for two forward, with an enclosed head and shower to port of the companionway and the galley to starboard.

Powered by a 75 hp Yanmar, Inner Circle Picnic cruises at 7 to 8 knots with a top speed of 9 to 10 knots - and while her easily handled manner was never in doubt, the inclusion of a bow thruster ensures manoeuvring in tight spots is not a bother.

Inner Circle Picnic is the second boat that Franklins have built for the owner. The first being an IOR One Tonner designed by Bruce Farr, built in 1987. Her home on Sydney Harbour, is in a private marina with her own slipway and boat house.

Franklin's feel gratified that a satisfied client has come back with a second boat, however the Askew 32’ launch could not be more different than the original racing yacht.
