California Girl
Resplendent in her rich red livery with striking graphics, California Girl's
looks transport you to those far off sunny cruising grounds.
Built for a California couple, California Girl is a comfortable passage maker, easily capable of 250 miles a day.
She is equipped with a full array of live aboard comforts and all the contemporary navigation and communications systems for extended cruising.
The interior features American Ash, contrasted with Honduras Mahogany trims, which contrasts nicely against Oyster White satin lacquer work.
All the woodwork is crafted using traditional wood working techniques, such as dove tailed drawer assemblies, wooden drawer runners and lift and pull actions.
Flooring throughout features 10mm Teak inlays with 75mm American Ash planks. The Ash has been clear gloss coated while the Teak has a clear non-skid finish.
California Girl has a substantial galley, featuring a Spruce Green Corian bench top, coved and polished, with twin stainless steel sinks in the central island that also houses the motor.
Completing the galley is a full height pantry with pull out stainless steel basket shelves, a custom made top loading freezer and front loading refrigerator, a 4 burner stove with oven below, a microwave and custom crockery storage.
Directly forward of the galley is the central saloon. The table is a work of art, being a mix of Burr Maple, Ash, Mahogany and Jarrah - it is testament to the fine wood working skills of the Franklin Team. It has a built-in cutlery drawer and the table pedestal houses the inverter.
Forward of the saloon is the owners' cabin, with head to port and a wash basin set in a long Formica bench, backed with mirrored sliding cupboard doors. A guests' double cabin is on the starboard side aft of the galley.
To port of the companionway is the main bathroom with shower and head.
The fully equipped nav' station bristling with electronic equipment including a sat phone, computer, radar, chart plotters, radio etc is on the port side adjacent to the galley and saloon.
Aft of the companionway to port, is a machine shop in which is located all the ancillary equipment, including the Glacier Bay refrigeration system (incorporating air–conditioning), a water maker, diesel heater, bilge pumps, salt water pumps, AC shore power panels, Ample Power gen set, hydraulics and auto pilot.

The cockpit layout reflects the many racing miles that Carl Schumacher had under his belt - easily worked with all necessary items coming readily to hand.Hull and decks are composite construction using Kevlar, E glass, lightweight balsa core and epoxies all heat cured under vacuum.
During construction of California Girl, Carl Schumacher passed away. The Franklin Team felt his passing very deeply and worked even harder to make Californian Girl a fitting memorial to a talented designer and all-round nice guy.
