Cattiva Rebuild
When everyone else said it couldn't be done it was up to Franklins to prove them wrong!
Cattiva is a 40 foot Morrelli and Melvern catamaran owned by a Californian couple.
Cattiva suffered severe damage to the port hull after breaking her mooring in Nelson NZ and grounding on rocks.
The port side below the waterline was completely destroyed including all wiring, cabinetry, motors, plumbing and fuel tanks etc.
The Starboard side hull also sustained considerable damage with a large section of the underside of the hull being torn open, resulting in the Starboard engine, generator and water maker all getting substantial salt water damage all of which was replaced with new items in the final re-install.
There was also extensive water damage through the rest of boat, with most electrical and mechanical systems needed either to be replaced or to under go a full strip down and rebuild.
It was to a point were no one thought Cattiva would sail the oceans again, much to the dismay to its owners.
This was before Franklins were recommended to the owners by Morelli and Melvern, and the yard took on the re-build.
As this was such a major re-build, Cattiva was shipped to our Christchurch yard, where, using our Christchurch yards' custom boat building expertise, a new mould was made of her underwater sections and two new lower hulls were produced.
Then with Franklin's no job to big attitude our team of expert boat builders set to to rebuild Cattiva to her former glory.
It was great to see Cattiva relaunched and with two very happy owners it made the job all worth while.
They commented that Cattiva was leaving Franklin's in a better condition than when she first left the original builder's yard -
a testament to the Franklin Teams' attention to detail and willingness to go that extra mile.

Ever had the thought your boat was too short? At Franklins we can fix that!
The owner of this 52 foot Salthouse was always struggling for room in his cockpit for enjoying hot summer nights with family and friends. Franklin's of Waikawa did a superb job on lengthening the boat with a whole extra 5 feet being grafted in to the cockpit not only greatly improving the usable space on deck but has vastly improved below deck storage space.
This boat is now a stunning example of Franklin's craftsmanship and we welcome you to try find the join.
